Where does organic maple syrup fall in the Paleo diet? I’ve read you can use maple syrup as a sugar substitute in baking, but not sure if it’s Paleo approved or not. If it is Paleo, have you ever used it in baking? Any recipes to share? Thanks!

      Hi Katie,

Maple Syrup is one of those grey areas in the Paleo Diet. It honestly depends on what school of Paleo you follow. Generally, the stricter schools recommend no extra sugar at all, however the more modern schools say some added natural sugar is acceptable. So with that being said if you’re following a school that allows for added natural sugar you could use maple syrup. We generally use honey or agave but you could substitute maple syrup in any of our recipes. We always recommend any sugar in moderation because while it maybe natural it is still sugar. The best thing to do is figure out what works best for you and your body. Also, make sure to read your labels. You’re going to want natural pure maple syrup, not the fake stuff which can be packed with non-paleo ingredients . Hope this helps!
